It was absolutely that! While touring the grounds we met our salesman Yalmar. We exchanged phone numbers via WhatsApp and agreed to tour the resort he worked for. I must admit I was a bit skeptical, however his straight forward no pressure approach won me over. While waiting for our resort Taxi, a charming man (Ricardo) approached us with a great excursion deal. Luckily our room was not far from a lot of the hot spots, so we ended up walking a lot of the time, which was fine with us.This by far was one of the most professional buying experiences we’ve ever had! We arrived in Costa Rica with excitement for the next 8 days of fun in the sun. It is important to note that while we were there, it did take transportation a little while (10 to 15 minutes) to pick us up. Lastly, there were two male bartenders that worked the bar at night (unfortunately I do not remember their names) that always had our special shots and drinks ready for us! The only other thing I would advise others to know is that they offer transportation all throughout the resort. My friends and I were thoroughly impressed with the staff as well! There was one staff in particular named Jostin (who was a dancer in the shows that are put on at the theater) that entertained us often! Whether he was chit chatting with us, or performing in the shows, he always kept a smile on our faces! Also, when we spent time at the pool, we had a server named Randy who was very attentive. Our rooms were very clean, and housekeeping would always do a great job of tiding up our rooms (when you wanted them to stop by, there is a option to leave "do not disturb" on if you do not want housekeeping stopping by). My friends and I had an amazing stay at this resort! Some highlights included the cleanliness and the staff. We couldn’t ask for a better stay! We will return. Ask for Gilbert, he set up excellent tours for us. Amstar has an office onsite to set up excursions. They are about 45 minutes long and a lot of fun. Activities at the resort are fun and I would suggest checking out the night shows. Room service is great, though has a limited menu. Gary at the pool bar was the best in the resort. Our favorites were market cafe (breakfast and lunch buffet) and portofino (Italian). We only had one bad meal (seaside grill). The food can be hit or miss, but overall was very good. You never have to look far for someone to assist you. There are plenty of shaded spots if you are looking to stay out of the sun. You can see crabs, iguanas, and birds all around. You can also walk from one end of the resort to the other on the beach. It is hilly, but there are transport vans to take you around. Though it would be raining hard outside the resort, something about the location in the gulf made it so we only got a few sprinkles, but amazing views of storm clouds and lightning. The resort seems to be in some sort of magical sweet spot. We visited Secrets Papagayo for our honeymoon the stay was perfect. Our stay was short, only a couple of days, so we didn't get to experience all the resort offerings. It's a short 15 min hike but steep! The water clarity wasn't great for snorkeling but we saw a lot of puffer fish & cool sea urchins. Activities We enjoyed the sunset hike with awesome views. ![]() Costa Rica beaches are public so there were a few beach vendors. We used the beach to walk from one side of the resort to the other. The black sand beach had a row of chaise lounges on the active side, some were tree shaded. They could use more umbrellas to shade the lounges. We preferred the quiet pool by the spa with the Aqua restaurant & bar. Pools/Beach There is a quiet side & a LOUD side (people/music/activities). We had dinner at Portofino seated outside, we had lunch & dinner at Aqua & the buffet at Market Café. Food The choices are fantastic! Reservations for the Asian Himitsu need to be made close to 8 am. Walking to the main area for meals or to the pools was only 2-5 minutes so we never bothered with the shuttle except for baggage transport at checkout. We used room service only once for drinks & it was fast! Resort The layout isn't the usual Secrets brand style as this once was a Hyatt resort. Rooms Our Bungalow Suite Tropical View rooms had a bit of ocean view! We were in the quiet #300 rooms & enjoyed the view from our room & large balcony!
