We’ve covered the headset extensively and there are many people in the Trusted Reviews’ office that are giddy about the reveal – however, I’ll have my eyes firmly placed elsewhere on Monday night. WWDC is predominantly a developer-focussed event (it is called the Worldwide Developers Conference, after all) so we’ll likely see some initial looks at what types of apps and games will run on the headset when it launches. If the rumours are to be believed, the highlight of Monday’s event will be the reveal of Apple’s first AR/VR headset and all the software that’ll be launched alongside it. Not only have there been suggestions it could be a seriously long event, but WWDC 23 is set to see a whole new product category announced – a rare occurrence for Apple. We’re mere hours away from Apple’s first major event of 2023 and all signs point to next week’s WWDC being an event that will go down in Apple folklore. I hope Apple fixes this glaring software omission with iPadOS 17 The iPad has also, finally, got the same lock screen improvements we saw in iOS 16 for the iPhone widgets on the home screen on the home screen can be interacted with. watchOS 10 gets a big redesign with widgets, while the iPad gets Live Activities and the Health app. iOS 17, coming later this year, has a new Standby Mode that displays widgets and a big, much more visible clock when the phone is charging and there’s a brand-new Journaling app too. It runs Vision OS, has 3D camera onboard and is powered by both the M2 chip and the R1 chip.Īpple also introduced a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip, a couple of new Mac Studio models and the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro with an M2 Ultra chip.Įlsewhere, we got all the big software updates we expected. Further release dates will be announced later. Vision Pro will cost $3499 and ship, in the USA, early next year. Let’s get some of the big details out of the way first. This is one of the first big new product categories introduced since the Apple Watch in 2015 and it’s going to be massive for Apple over the next few years. Out of everything Apple announced at WWDC 2023, the Vision Pro headset was the headline release. The official kick off to summer is right around the corner, which can only mean one thing: it’s time to hole up in a dark room and watch Apple talk. The Series 9 will likely be powered by a new S9 chip, which Bloomberg's Gurman, posting to his Power On Discord channel back in May, described as bringing improvements to performance and efficiency. As reported by MacRumors, based on a post by X/Twitter user ShrimpApplePro, the Apple Watch Series 9 might come in a new pink color. In a less ambitious update, it seems the next regular Apple Watch will likely be a relatively modest year-over-year iteration of the Apple Watch Series 8. Such a hardware addition would be a first for Apple, and the iPhone's action button would be for more-phone-oriented tasks like shortcuts or triggering the camera shutter. Bloomberg's Gurman mentioned the possibility nearly a year ago, but that should be taken with a grain of salt since more recently Gurman hasn't brought it up.Īnother up-in-the-air rumor comes by the way of MacRumors, which found code in a beta version of iOS 17 that describes functionality for an action button like the one on the Apple Watch Ultra. The first is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may be rebranded as the iPhone 15 Ultra. There are a couple of rumors that have been circulating despite being a bit dated or unlikely. Back in 2018, the HTC U12 had solid-state buttons instead of mechanical ones however, the experience using them wasn't great. The buttons wouldn't be mechanical and would be more akin to the touch sensitive area that debuted on the iPhone 7 and acts like a "home button" thanks to some clever haptic feedback. Following the keynote, developer sessions will be available to watch online for free through June 11th via the Apple Developer. Kuo's report also hints at both Pro models having solid-state volume and power buttons, which would further differentiate them from the regular 15 and 15 Plus.
